6 Things Successful People Never Do
Wednesday Mar 02, 2016
Wednesday Mar 02, 2016
Have you ever wondered what are the habits all successful people eliminate from their everyday lives? Today I'm going to identify six main things successful people never do: 1 - Successful people don't lack of self-acceptance Nobody is perfect. Remember that we're all imperfect and that's okay. We all make mistakes. What we learn from them is important. Just accept who you are. 2 - Successful people don’t use negative self-talk When that critical voice really gets going, it's hard to think of anything else. You will eventually start believing something negative. It's hard when you're stuck on a repeating loop, like a merry-go-round that’s making you sick. Don’t get on it! 3 - Successful people don’t have low self-esteem Self-esteem describes a person's overall sense of self-worth or personal value. And because much of our self-esteem is a reaction to our experiences, we often confuse what happens to us as what we actually are. If bad things happen to me, then I must be bad. Wrong. 4 - Successful people don’t have negative attitudes about themselves Attitude is everything. Before you enter any situation, your attitude can oftentimes determine whether or not you'll be successful. Keep an eye out for behaviors that will let external forces determine your internal condition. 5 - Successful people don’t focus on self-limiting beliefs Self-limiting beliefs are those things that you believe about yourself that place limitations on your abilities. In terms of your feelings about yourself, it's important to ask, "Are they true?" Many times you'll find that they aren't. 6 - Successful people don’t let negative past experiences rule their present I wish this one wasn't the case, but excessive criticism can lead to low self-esteem, which leads to self-doubt. This is especially true in children, who don't have the capacity to see if something is true or not. You've identified the causes, but now what? Cast them from your life in six easy steps! 1 - Locate the cause of your self-doubt. Do an honest assessment about your life to determine which one it is. Be brutal about the truth, even if it hurts. 2 - Identify the toxic people in your life. These people can be obviously toxic or they can be masquerading in plain sight as your friends. If they are, say goodbye. 3 - Identify the great people and nurture them. Find the people that are doing great things for you, seek out new people you respect, and nurture the relationships with them. 4 - Say positive things to yourself. It's really important that you keep your language positive and that you reinforce the type of life you want to have through your speech. 5 - Don't compare yourself to others Don't let the path of others distract you. Don't compare the totality of your life against a manufactured version of someone's else happiness. 6 - Don't give power to what people think of you. Who cares what other people think? Inviting people to judge you won’t help. Think of this journey as a storm that you need to pass through on your way to success. Don't let self-doubt be the final word on how you'll live your life.

5 Steps To Understand What Success Is To You
Wednesday Mar 02, 2016
Wednesday Mar 02, 2016
Our definition of success is what starts us on whatever path we choose. We want something and we embark on the path that we think will get us there. The secret is to look at success differently so you can reach your goals. The sad truth is that many of us only see success as a destination. We see achievement in terms of accumulation, all the stuff we have at the end of the race. But we all know that collecting stuff only fulfills you so much. It can't complete you. We must appreciate the journey and all of the lessons that we learn along the way. Defining success is your process, yours and yours alone. Only you can know what it means for you. And that process of finding out what success means is an important first step. Write down your definition of success on a piece of paper. Keep this definition handy. You can come back to it as often as you'd like, and you may even end up changing it further on down the road. 1. Write down your biggest goal right now. It can be anything. Envision yourself doing great things because dreams cost nothing! 2. Now break down this goal into smaller steps that you can track. A long road trip doesn't seem so long if you break it down into smaller, more manageable, chunks. Think of the saying, "A journey of a thousand miles starts with a first step." 3. Think about ways to make those chunks simpler to achieve. This is where you'll be doing the hard work. There's no such thing as an overnight success. But there are plenty of 10-year or even 30-year overnight successes. Remember that. 4. Write down daily action steps. Identify the steps that you need to start or stop doing to get yourself closer to your goal. Each action step moves you further along on your small manageable step. After a while you'll be on your way with each small step that gets you closer to your goal. 5. Follow these steps and enjoy the process. The process will take probably take longer than the achievement so learn to live in the moments and check in with yourself to see how much you're growing. Our definition of success has to serve the enjoyment of the process since that's where we'll be spending 99.9% of our lives. Be persistent with the action steps outlined above. Your life will change and you'll more easily manage your self-doubt!

4 Things Confident People Do Differently
Wednesday Mar 02, 2016
Wednesday Mar 02, 2016
There is a secret weapon against self doubt that you have at your disposal. Not only am I pointing out this important idea, but I’m including four steps below that will allow you deploy this weapon in your battle with that nagging voice of self-doubt in your head. The secret weapon is self-efficacy. Say what? I know it sounds fancy, but self-efficacy is simply the belief in your ability to succeed in specific situations. It’s the opposite of self-doubt. My self-efficacy in football is what propelled me to play my hardest no matter the team’s record. And my teammates knew who to count on for the big catch. You’ll need to cultivate that sense of strength within you and here are four ways how. 1 – Master Your Experiences Repetition is the mother of skill. Just think about the first time you do anything or go anywhere. You’re uncertain. It takes a while for you to get going. But over time, you do it a lot and then it becomes second-nature. Don’t focus on success. Focus on your reps. Break it down into small chunks and master it. 2 – Model Yourself on Other Successful People Find someone who has been to the top of the mountain and do what they do behavior-wise. If they can do it, so can you. The four-minute mile seemed impossible until one guy did it. Everything is just like that. Find a mentor or study successful people. Model yourself on them. 3 – Upgrade Your Circle of Influence You’re the average of the five closest people to you, so make sure that they are top-notch people. Notice who’s in their circle. Notice their habits and behaviors. Are they generally positive? Are they mindful of the world and their place in it? Are they thoughtful? Be sure that the people around you are positive people and making a positive impact in the world. And then let them make a positive impact on you. 4 – Master Your Emotions Your emotional state will almost always determine your success. If you’re feeling negative or defensive or emotionally compromised in some way, chances are you’re going to start questioning your abilities and that’s bad. Minimize stress whenever you can. Let go of things if they’re not important. Put the baggage down if carrying it is stressful. Maximize your self-efficacy by simply elevating your mood whenever you can. These four steps will help keep self-doubt at bay because they will improve your self-efficacy. By becoming more efficient at what you do, that self-doubt in your head will grow quieter and quieter. We know it can never go away (we don't want it to!), but you don't have to let it paralyze you. I know that many of you are destined for great things and I'm hopeful that by sharing my journey with self-doubt, you can learn from me and incorporate these elements into your life.
